In a 12 month period between 2008 and 2009, the City experienced and several residents were victims of residential and vehicular burglaries.  After the Sheriff successfully apprehended individuals associated with the vehicular burglaries, the residential burglaries stopped.

However, last night, a house was burglarized on Flying Mane Road in the same vicinity as those in 2008/09.  No one was home at the time and, there appears to be similar characteristics among them.

Without knowing if the situations are related, this is an important time to remember to take appropriate precautions and take action to prevent further incidents.

  • If you see a suspicious person in the area, call the Sheriff immediately at 310.539.1661 or if it is an emergency, call 911.
  • Always keep your doors locked.
  • Turn "on" your house alarm when you leave your residence.
  • If you don't have an alarm system, consider installing one, having a dog, installing security lighting or employing the use of other deterrents.
  • If you leave your house for an extended period, ask a neighbor to keep an eye on things and/or call the Sheriff's Department to schedule "vacation checks."
  • Meet your neighbors and know how to contact your Block Captain if there is an emergency.

The Sheriff's Department is providing extra patrol as immediate response to the latest incident.

As in the past, the Sheriff Department believes that the perpetrator was someone connected to the community, familiar with the area.  If you have seen or heard anything that may pertain to this incident, please also call the Sheriff Department.

Thank you for your cooperation.
