City Councilmember Terms
City general elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of odd-numbered years until 2019 (California Elections Code, Section 1000). Rolling Hills City Councilmembers serve four-year terms that are staggered, with an election every two years. Beginning in November 2020, the City’s General Municipal Election is slated to move to November of even years, instead of March of odd years. Because of this change, the terms for the individuals elected to the City Council in March 2017 and March 2019 will be shortened by four months and those Councilmembers will serve a three-year eight month term.
Each year, in March, the Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor.
Members of the City Council do not receive compensation for attendance at City Council meetings.
